What's New

We were awarded the Birch Bayh Federal Courthouse in downtown Indianapolis.  This will have the largest Green Roof in Indiana, which is in the center courtyard.

History

Blackmore & Buckner Roofing, LLC., A Tecta America Company provides services for commercial, industrial and institutional roofing and sheet metal needs with roof asset management, emergency leak services, maintenance schedules and repair, and the best in industry installations of most all roofing and sheet metal products and systems.  We employ the most experienced professional roofers and sheet metal craftsmen.

The company has been un business under the same management for 93 years.  Current management has an average of 30+ years working in the commercial roofing and sheet metal industry, serving the state of Indiana, Kentucky, Illinois and Ohio.  We specialize in long-term planning and continuous improvement objectives, whcih help provide efficient roofing and sheet metal experience that focuses on attention to detail.

Our Service Department's focus is on roof asset management programs, maintenance, leak services and repairs, and provides the best service to our customers.  We feel most roofs can last well beyond the normal life cycle expectations with experienced inspectors performing audits and qualified personnel applying annual maintenance.

Safety is our number one concern; our employees and our customers expect to be safe on the job.  The company has recognized the need to have safety as a deep-rooted conviction to make us not just a company with a safety policy, but most importantly, a "safe company."

Management


Stephen Buckner
, President
Stephen Buckner has over 35 years’ experience in the roofing and sheet metal industry.  He is the youngest son of Malcom Buckner and a grandson of Harry Blackmore who founded the company in 1919. Stephen started working in the family business as a roofing helper in 1978.   In 1984 he moved into estimating and project management,  progressing into managing a majority of the company’s larger projects and in 1999 became the President of the company. Stephen has estimated and managed many notable projects in Indiana. His most recent projects are the Federal Courthouse in downtown Indianapolis, Honda Assembly Plant in Greensburg, Indiana Live Casino in Shelbyville, and the Major Emmitt J. Bean Finance Building in Indianapolis,. In 2006, he was certified as a registered roof observer through the Roof Consultant's Institute.


Frank "Jamey" Smith, Jr.
, Vice President
Frank "Jamey" Smith, Jr. has over 31 years experience in the roofing and sheet metal industry.  He is a third generation roofing and sheet metal craftsman.  His grandfather, Roy Smith, started working for Malcom Buckner in 1954 and managed the sheet metal installation and the fabrication shop starting in 1956.  Roy's sons Frank J. Smith, Sr., and Harold Smith started in 1956 amd 1954, respectively, and were trained journeyman master sheet metal workers, and both managed the sheet metal shop after Roy's death in 1965.  Frank J. Smith, Jr. hired in as a roofer's helper in 1978, then moved to estimating and project management in 1988.  In 1994, he became the chief estimator/project manager.  In 2005, he moved into the V.P. role and continues that role today.


James L. Wilson, Sheet Metal Superintendent:

James has over 20 years of experience int he sheet metal industry.  He has been employed with Blackmore & Buckner Roofing for 17 years.  His father was in the sheet metal industry for 40+ years.  He was mentored by Frank J. Smith, Sr. who also worked for Blackmore & Buckner Roofing for 40+ years as Superintendent.  James succeeded as Superintendent after Frank J. Smith, Sr. retired.  He has a degree in sheet metal technology and served in an apprenticeship for 5 years.  James started as a pre-apprentice and has worked his way up the corporate ladder to superintendent.  His role with Blackmore & Buckner Roofing is to oversee the safety, quality and efficiency of the Sheet Metal Operations.  He is also active with the Project Management team and working in unison with the Safety Officer, Roofing Superintendent, Project Manager, Estimator, Service Department and Accounting.


Ron Huston, Roofing Superintendent:

Ron has over 30 years of experience in residential and commercial roofing.  He is a second generation roofer.  Ron began his roofing career as a roofing helper in 1978 and progressed in the industry to become a productin foreman in 1982 where he completed projects including Allisons Transmission; Delphi; Ford Motor Company and Gatorade/Quaker Oats.  Ron's experience encompasses built-up roofing, EPDM, TPO's, PVC and modified torch material.  He began his employment with Blackmore & Buckner Roofing approximately 5 years ago and has held positions usch as Truck & Crane Operator, Project Foreman and is now Roofing Superintendent.


Chris Roark, Service Deparment Manager, Superintendent and Estimator:

Chris has over 20 years of experience in the roofing and sheet metal industry.  Chris began his roofing career as a roofing helper in 1989 and progressed in the industry to become a foreman in several years.  Chris' experience encompasses built-up roofing, EPDM, TPO's, PVC and modified torch down.  He began his employment with Blackmore & Buckner Roofing in 2000 as a foreman and service technician.  In 2005, he started in sales estimating which shortly followed in 2009 as the Service Manager.
